Materials I love and hate.

i love:
copper
terra-cotta clay
micro pens
black india ink
plaster
avocado skins
RESIN- i will set anything in with resin
felt
fabric
thread
yarn
paper
plastic
everyday items, like toilet paper, cardboard, etc. Things people can easily identify as one thing, but can be manipulated by an artist to be something else:

wood, manipulating outdoor material:

garbage
oil paint
charcoal

anything in multiplessss- 500 toothbrushes, 50 zippers, or a gagillion staples:

I love art in multiples because I am just completely impressed with the patience people can have when it comes to their art. I wish I were more patient.

string
wire

There is still a whole bunch of of material I feel like I still need to learn how to use. I wish that I would be able to take a printmaking, or a photography class here at 'cadia. I would say the type of material I am drawn to, is something I can manipulate quickly, results are immediate and I can keep moving. I think that this is why I didn't want to take painting II. I get easily frustrated, and a good painting takes a while to build up. With metal there is a series of steps that happen. When I finish one step I'm on to the next, I always know when it's done. The organization of steps in my mind are important to me because more often then not I can be distracted or lose interest if I'm doing one thing for a long period of time (patience frustration).  I also don't like sticking to only one material.

i dont like
soap stone!!! or any kind of stone that I need to carve.
acrylic paint
crayons
oil pastels (they make my hands feel wierd)

  1. How about working with lots of something? The pistachio shells? Forcing yourself to create something out of them?

I think about something like this:

Maybe try something that tries your patience? With no expectations...you may surprise yourself.

  2. i definitely agree with carole about trying something which tries your patience... but also i think that you work with a material you have no clue about. just so you have an ignorance might be bliss kinda thing

  3. work with something you have no clue about, yes. i think that might work. when you are learning something, you get a whole new jolt of energy. which might be something important to remember. a lot of something might be really good, too, as a try for patience - which you've said is sort of a continuing theme, right? all those pistachios may have somewhere to go.... somewhere small and vast. whatever that may mean.

    star trek out.

  4. p.s. "might work" is a funny phrase that i didnt really mean to use. i just meant that it offers the potential for something you might want to think about? or at least maybe think about. thats all. mkay!, byee.
